With over 60 different attractions within a
10 - 45 minute drive of the barn we can offer our guests a
varied collection of places to visit. We have listed over
40 attractions as a guide, but can offer more detailed brochures
and information during your stay with us.

*Clare
A Market town steeped in history, Clare Priory, The Ancient
House, which is the town’s museum. Clare Castle Country
Park is Suffolk’s oldest public park. Lovely walks through
the park.Clare’s shops include a Co-Op supermarket,
chemist, Post Office, butchers, bakers, green grocers, ironmongers,
hairdressers and numerous public houses serving a good selection
of food. The antique warehouse has four floors of antiques.
Clare has a great 9 hole Golf Course and fishing is close
by.

*Hedingham Castle
Norman Castle Keep, 110 feet high, was built c1140 by Aubrey
de Vere and is still owned by one of his descendants.
With beautiful grounds. Regular jousting tournaments and events.
*Colne Valley Railway
Come and sample the atmosphere and take a ride on
the award winning period country railway. With regular events
throughout the year

*Finchingfield
Famous for its pond and windmill, visitors flock
from all over the country to visit Essex’s prettiest
village, enjoy a cup of tea and a home made scone at Jermima
Tea Rooms.
*Long Melford
A town known for its stately homes; Melford Hall Tudor mansion
run by the National Trust and lived in by the Hyde Parker
family. Kentwell Hall famous for its Re-Creation of Tudor
and WW11past times, and home to the Phillip’s family.
The High Street is awash with antique shops and tasteful gift
shops. Foxearth - Rodbridge Picnic Area, walking and fishing.
*Lavenham
England’s Finest Mediaeval Town. The Guildhall of Corpus
Christi, (National Trust) and Little Hall dating back to the
1390’s. Gift shops line the street. Guided walks around
Lavenham can be booked through the TIC.
*Sudbury
is a thriving Market Town sitting on the river in the heart
of the Stour Valley. Thomas Gainsborough, the renowned 18thC
painter, grew up here painting the local countryside. His
paintings, drawings, prints and memorabilia can be seen at
Gainsborough House. Why not try a river trip in Rosette, an
Edwardian style launch, which cruises through the picturesque
water meadows of Sudbury and Henny or take in a show at the
Quay Theatre.

*Braintree
Blake House Craft Centre, Blake End, Nr Braintree. Wander
around the fine variety of art and craft shops in a friendly,
relaxed atmosphere, where there really is something for everyone.
Enjoy a bite to eat in the restaurant.
*Saffron Walden
Audley End House, (English Heritage). Enjoy over 30 lavishly
decorated rooms. Or relax in 20 acres of grounds and deer
meadows at Mole Hall Wildlife Park. Nearby at Stansted there
is Mountfitched Castle and the House of the Hill Toy Museum.
John Webb’s Windmill has undergone an extensive restoration
programme and houses local artefacts. Anglo-American War Memorial
in memory to all the 65th Fighter Wing Groups.
*Linton
Chilford Hall Vineyard. Guided Tour, shop and café.
Linton Zoo.
*Bildeston
Corn Craft, a unique centre in the heart of the Suffolk countryside,
has specialised Corn Dolly making for many years. Craft and
Gift Shop and a welcoming Tea Room. The Summer House offers
practical and unusual gifts for the garden.

*Cambridge
Famous for its punting on the river Cam. Explore the host
of museums including the Fitzwilliam Museum.
The American Cemetery at Mattingly - It is the only American
cemetery in England and pays tribute to American Service Men
and Women who died in the WW11. There are 3812 American Military
dead buried there.
The Imperial War Museum at Duxford, one of the world’s
most spectacular aviation heritage complexes with 200 aircraft.

*Newmarket
Home to British Horse Racing. With 2,500 horses in training
within its boundaries.
The National Stud is the only thoroughbred stud
in the country that opens its gates to the public for guided
tours.
The British Horse Racing Museum.- High Street
Newmarket
The Newmarket Experience can offer you full
and half day tours where you will be taken by coach to the
gallops to watch the racehorses out training. Then on to either
the Newmarket Stud or the British Horse Racing Museum.
Newmarket Race Course - Racing season is from mid April through
to the first weekend in November.
Evening racing is very popular.
*Bury St Edmunds
Ickworth House, Park & The house is set in a `Capability'
Brown park and surrounded by an Italian garden with a range
of waymarked woodland walks, a deer enclosure with hide, an
adventure playground and picnic area. Vineyard (producing
Ickworth wine) and plant centre.
Green King Brewery - Visit the Greene King brewery
shop, off license and museum. Experience an informative and
fun tour of the working brew house which includes a tasting
of our fabulous beers.
Hengrave Hall stands in 44 acres with a lake,
varied gardens and parkland. This unique Tudor house is renowned
for its Oriel above the gatehouse and stained glass window.
West Stow Anglo Saxon Village - Unique reconstructed Anglo-Saxon
village built on the site of an original settlement. Archaeological
finds are displayed in a specially built centre.
West Stow Country Park - Country park with nature trail, paths
and bird hides. Large car park with picnic area. Visitor centre
with information, cafeteria and shop.
*Colchester
Colchester Castle A Norman keep on the foundations of a Roman
temple. The archaeological material includes much on Roman
Colchester (Camulodunum). Exciting hands-on displays.
Colchester Zoo has over 250 species and some
of the best cat and primate collections in the UK, 60 acres
of gardens and lakes, award-winning enclosures and picnic
areas.
East Anglian Railway Museum - Chappel Station,
Colchester. A comprehensive collection of period railway architecture
and engineering.
*Dedham Vale
An area of outstanding natural beauty. Its pastoral
scenes are world-famous as the settings used by the artist
John Constable, Flatford Mill and picturesque Dedham retain
an unspoilt quality, despite their many summer visitors.
*Tiptree
Tiptree Jams Tea Shop and Museum. A visit to The Jam Shop,
Tea Room and Museum will take about one
hour. Visitors to the centre can see how life was and how
the art of jam making has advanced over the years at Tiptree.
